Metro Detroit Electronic Music Radio Guide

With so many different radio stations hosting different electronic music shows throughout the week, its difficult to keep track of what is on when. In Metro Detroit we are fortunate to have many quality public stations that offer a variety of different types of programes that cater to fans of electronic music. In fact, at just about ANY hour day or night, you can tune into a programme that at either is exclusively electronic or at least "electronic music friendly" with techno, house, dnb, ambient tracks, thrown in with a variety of other types of music. Below you will find a program guide with times and stations in addition to a station quide with some quick info and links on stations that include electronic music in thier format. Because all of these stations are public, they rely on listener donations from time to time so dont forget to support your public radio! Because I cannot keep all of the programs as up to date as I like, if I am missing any shows or if I have anything wrong, please email me at christos@datavibe.net.

Station Guide

As you many know, Internet Radio is being endangered by Congress. All of the stations below that have electronic music friendly formats use the web to broadcast globally. To learn more about bills being proposed, and what you can do visit

WDET FM 101.9- Detroit Public Radio is a service sponsored by Wayne State University and can be heard throughout southeasern Michigan.. While the Chuck Horn Show is exclusively electronic, Liz Copeland plays a LOT of good electronic music along with a great eclectic mix of other great music, and on the second wednesday of every month hosts "Focus: Electronic" along with Clark Warner. Judy Adams, Martin Bandyke, and Jim Bauer host variety shows with great mixes of music that include the occasional house, techno, etc. To listen to WDET live online click here.

WDTR FM 90.9- This absolutely awesome station is sponsored by Detroit Public Schools, and focus on house, old school hip hop/r n b, jazz, and world music. I cannot say enough good things about this station. Though it does not broadcast online, WDTR is a powerful station and can be heard throughout SE Michigan.

CJAM 91.5 FM- This radio station broadcasts from the University of Windsor and hosts a wide variety of music. I only have two shows on the program guide above, and I'm sure that there are more, so please email me about any other electronic music shows. This station is pretty powerful and should come in in Wayne/Oakland/Macomb counties. To listen live click here.

WCBN 88.3 FM- While I only have one program above which is a fantastic radio show, Carlos Suffront and BMG's "Crush Collision" a lot of the freeform shows in this station play a good amount of electronic music, though with the schedule changing every semester, its impossible for me to keep track of which shows play what. But if you live in the range of this station (Washtenaw County and perhaps Western Wayne County), set it as a preset as all of thier music programs tend to be excellent. To listen online click here.

WHFR FM 89.3- This is the radio station of Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn and has a format that includes electronica, heavy metal, punk, goth, indutrial, classical, etc. One of my favroite stations, unfortunately the recption could be better Downriver, and might not come on outside of Wayne County. Thats okay, you can listen on line by clicking here.
